The fifth workshop in the ‘Global perspectives on the “orchestra”‘ project took place at the Institute of Musical Research, University of London on 3 March 2014. It focused on writing about and on playing in orchestras. The workshop aimed to share insights from both practitioner and researcher perspectives.
Issues discussed included the orchestra as a prestige economy and heirarchial structures within the symphony orchestra. There was a session for contributors to the edited book project and a practical gamelan workshop. The workshop concluded with tea and a general discussion.
